Hills Near Livermore, 21 x 27, pastel on paper

California Art Club Exhibition

Art Between the Lines: An Exhibition by the San Francisco Chapter of the California Art Club

Hills Near Livermore, 21 x 27 in., pastel on paper

I’m pleased to have my painting accepted to this juried exhibition, which is an un-themed show. The exhibition subjects may range from landscape, still-life, figurative and sculptural work.

Viewing my painting “Hills Near Livermore” offers a glimpse of California with its lush, rolling oak-studded hills the way it once was, but is now fast disappearing in many areas.

Tatiana, pastel portrait by Jim Promessi

Tatiana with Flowers

Portrait in soft pastel on Mi-teintes paper, 28 x 22 in.

My wife, Tatiana posed for this portrait. I saved the space on the lower half of the composition for the red and yellow daisies from our garden, which I arranged and painted to complete the portrait.

California Hills Matilija, landscape painting by Jim Promessi

California Hills and Matilija

Landscape in oil on canvas, 30 x 36 in.

Spring in California brings forth a glorious show of the white poppy Matilija. The delicate white petals are the largest of any native plant of California and grow in abundance in clusters in the hills and even along the freeway. I am always inspired by the beauty of Spring in this state, with its rolling green oak-studded hills.
