Storm Tossed, 22 x 30, Pastel on paper

Storm Tossed

The waters along the coast can be very dramatic before, after and especially during a winter storm. The pounding, high surf and strong winds turn the ocean into an massive display of power.

Hills Near Livermore, 21 x 27, pastel on paper

California Art Club Exhibition

Art Between the Lines: An Exhibition by the San Francisco Chapter of the California Art Club

Hills Near Livermore, 21 x 27 in., pastel on paper

I’m pleased to have my painting accepted to this juried exhibition, which is an un-themed show. The exhibition subjects may range from landscape, still-life, figurative and sculptural work.

Viewing my painting “Hills Near Livermore” offers a glimpse of California with its lush, rolling oak-studded hills the way it once was, but is now fast disappearing in many areas.

Tatiana, pastel portrait by Jim Promessi

Tatiana with Flowers

Portrait in soft pastel on Mi-teintes paper, 28 x 22 in.

My wife, Tatiana posed for this portrait. I saved the space on the lower half of the composition for the red and yellow daisies from our garden, which I arranged and painted to complete the portrait.

Woman in Red Dress, pastel portrait by Jim Promessi

Woman in Red Dress

This portrait by Jim is 24 x 36 in., pastel on paper.

The striking red and blue fabric serves as a foil to the model’s gentle repose. The strong colors draw attention to, and amplify the sensitive modeling of the head, hair and hands.
